Q. What am I voting for?
A. To help create a collection of the 'Most Moving Tunes on Planet Earth'. With the long term goal of funding the removal of plastic from the environment. Think plastic bottles and discarded plastic bags hanging from trees, washed up on beaches, trapped in hedgerows, blowing over mountains and you'll have the right idea. We aim to give all that nasty plastic a value and change it from being a problem into being a resource.
Q. How can plastic ever be a resource?
A. If it is given a value, for example, 2 cents per Kilo (2.2lbs). With a value it becomes worth picking up and collected mixed plastic waste can be recycled and reused in a variety of ways, from making 'plastic lumber' to turning it into fuel.
Q. What will you do with the collection?
A. The aim is to make a compilation available for download and in CD format. Sale of the compliation will fund the project.
Q. Can I just register support without naming my four tunes?
A. Not at the moment, the database is very basic. To register support it is necessary to complete the voting process, that means completing your details AND your four tunes. You'll know when you've done it right as you will see a couple of plastic bags turn into a lovely flower once you've voted.
Q. What if I have fewer than four tunes I want to vote for?
A. You can vote for between one and four tunes. We'd very much like four if you've got them, but if you only have one or two to share that's ok. Just remember you can't come back and vote again.
Q. What if I have more than four tunes I want to vote for?
A. Unfortunately we can only take 4 votes per person.
Q. Can I change my votes?
A. No.
Q. What do you mean by 'as they were first released'?
A. To avoid confusion please use the name the song or music was originally published in. Many songs and pieces of music have name and language changes in addition to remixes. To keep this as simple as possible please only use the language and name the tune was originally published in.
Q. Why is the day divided into sections?
A. We have divided the day into Morning 6am-12am, Afternoon 12am-6pm, Evening 6pm-12pm, and Night 12pm-6am for two reasons. Firstly, to allow 24 hours to be divided into manageable 6 hour chunks. Secondly, music often sounds even better at different times of the day or gives part of the day a special meaning. For example, that soul moving, hard dance tune heard in a night club in Ibiza at 4am might not seem quite so soul moving when played at 1 in the afternoon.
Q. What do I put if my tune is not in English?
A. Enter the name of the tune exactly as it was first issued.
For example if you wish to vote for Handel's Overture in Music For The Royal Fireworks
Music/Song Name: Feuerwerksmusik, Overture
Artist /Composer: Georg Friedrich Handel
Q. How do I enter classical music?
A. Enter the name of the piece, as it is commonly known, in the language it was originally produced in.
For example:
Music/Song Name: Piano Concerto 5, Op 73, Adagio un poco moto
Artist/Composer: Ludwig Van Beethoven
Q. What if I want a special mix, remix or version of a tune?
A. The database for this is Very Basic. So please only enter the name of the tune exactly as it was first issued.
Q. How can you vote without a PC or e-mail?
A. Postal votes are accepted. Please remember to include Name, Age, Gender, and Address. See
Contact details for the address to send to.
Q. Will my details be passed on?
A. Absolutely not. Your information will be used only for fund raising towards the purpose of this site.
Q. What if I would like my selections all played at one time? For example, all in the evening.
A. Unfortunately that is not yet possible. Don't let that stop you. Please enter your votes throughout the day as you think best.
Q. Why don't you have a list of music to choose from like most other polls?
A. Simply, because we want this to be as accurate and representative as we can make it. A collection of music voted for by everyone and anyone, rather than a pre-chosen list. We hope there will be some interesting surprises!
Q. Can I make a donation to help?
A. Yes. Just use the e-mail address on the
Contact Page with the subject line 'DONATION' and we'll get back to you on how you can donate.
Q. What will you do when all the votes come in? Will you just post the list of songs?
A. The collection is not just to be a list, but ultimately a compilation that can be sold to raise funds. The compilation will reflect the number of votes cast for any particular tune, in relation to the total number of tunes voted for, and how many tunes can be squeezed into the 6 hour time slot for each part of the day.
